Description Holly Rise Housing Co-operative Ltd is a Tenant Management Organisation (TMO). It became a legally recognised as a TMO on 23rd January 2002 following a successful ballot of the tenants from Birmingham City Council,
Registered as a limited company, under the Friendly Society's Act, it is a not for profit organisation.
The TMO manages Claverdon House and Southam House at a local level for Birmingham City Council, It provides housing management/repairs service to 60 flats in two medium rise tower blocks in the Billesley area of Birmingham.
Who are we! Holly Rise Housing Co-operative was originally set up in 1986. It consists of two six-storey blocks of flats, Claverdon House and Southam House. Each block houses a mix of 30 one and two-bedroom flats over 6 floors. Over the years we have achieved much to be proud of: encouraging a community spirit, improving the properties to ensure the best standard of living possible and improving the environment around us.
What is Holly Rise all about! Holly Rise is about a different way of providing housing. The tenants, through an elected committee, are responsible for the day-to-day running of their homes. This involves:
- Tenants making the day-to-day decisions in relation to the upkeep of the properties
- Tenants agreeing and managing their own maintenance budget
- Employing our own contractors to carry out high-quality speedy
- Managing and improving the garden and the environment around Southam and Claverdon Houses.
How does this impact tenants! As a co-operative member, tenants are asked to agree, sign and abide by our membership agreement. Within this agreement (which was originally agreed and approved by all our members), is a set of rules and regulations. These are designed for the benefit of everyone - co-operation is the keyword. We aim to work together to improve everyone's quality of life. To become a member, all tenants are asked to buy a £1.00 share. This is a one-off payment which entitles residents to vote and make decisions within the co-operative.
The benefits of being a member of the Holly Rise Co-operative are numerous and include living as part of caring community, having a voice and vote on how your home is maintained, having the right to elect a committee of your peers to make decisions on your behalf at a local level and having a repair service that is reliable and designed with you in mind. Knowing your neighbours are just as committed to living in a safe and clean environment as you are. Being able to decide how you want your immediate environment to take shape. The list goes on ...
